2 – Navigation and menus

In the previous section you created some content. But before launch we need to take a look at the organisation of your content using menus in the navigation bar.

Creating your main menu

From the left-hand sidebar in your WordPress Dashboard click ‘Appearance’> ‘Menus’

You will see the most recent pages (or posts and categories) that you have created in a box on the left of the screen. Tick the ones that you want to appear in the menu and click the ‘Add to Menu’ button.

These page titles will appear in on the right hand side where you can ‘drag and drop’ them to amend their order. You can also amend the navigation label by expanding the box and editing the field provided.

You can also add individual posts, categories and custom urls to the menu by clicking in those options highlighted in yellow and following the same process as above. This is useful if you want to add a blog to your menu – when you write blog posts just categorise them in a category called ‘Blog’ and then add that category to your menu.

Save your menu and then check your site to see how it appears.
