9 – Purchase & set-up of hosting with SiteGround

Before you start have your credit card to hand and also, if you haven’t already, have your preferred domain name options written down. Now you are ready to purchase your domain and hosting. If you need some advice on choosing a domain name check out our post here.

Go to

Via the main menu navigate to:

>’WordPress Services’
>’WordPress Hosting’

Here you will start a simple 3 step process:

Step 1 – Select your hosting plan

Scroll down the page and you will find 3 hosting plans to chose from: StartUp, GrowBig and GoGeek.

For the purposes of this example we are going for the StartUp option. It offers the quickest and easiest set-up and everything that you need to get stared online. You can of course upgrade at any time.

Select the ‘StartUp’ plan by clicking on the orange ‘Get Started’ button.

You can look at the various plans in more detail here.

Step 2 – Register your domain

Search for and register your chosen domain name. For the purposes of this tutorial we registered:

Select the ‘Register a New Domain’ option, type the domain name into the box and choose your extension (.com, .org, etc) from the dropdown menu and then click on the blue ‘Proceed’ button.

The processing of your request may take a few moments while SiteGround checks the availability of your chosen domain. But probably not as long as it takes to make a cup of tea, so sit tight.

(Note that at this stage, if you already own a domain, click on the second option and then just enter your domain in the box and ‘Proceed’. Simple!)

Step 3 – Complete your purchase

Carefully complete and review all the sections of the form including contact details, setting your SiteGround account password, and payment details and the hosting period.

Then check the Terms of Service and submit your order.

All really, really quick and easy so far, right?

Purchase Complete!

Once your domain and hosting order has been processed, you will see this message on your screen. You can proceed straight to the customer area from here.

At this point SiteGround will also send you a confirmation email with your login information (username and password) for the SiteGround Control Panel (CPanel). You should receive your email almost instantaneously.

Check your email for this information and, when you have it, you can ‘Proceed to the Customer Area’ i.e. the SiteGround CPanel.

So, you can access the customer area from the current screen on the SiteGround site OR you can click there direct from your email (as shown in the images).

The next step is WordPress installation.
